“I have wasted my life”?
This made me think of James Wright’s poem for some reason.
Hmm. Might be an interesting exercise to try crafting a different last line for that poem that would express more my own belief, without totally destroying the poem (which is a nice catalogue). “Into the distances of the afternoon” is the other great line.
