White with rime,
the cattails’ broken blades–
Under the springhouse eaves,
an empty phoebe nest–
Two juncos come
fluttering with flags–
As if to let us know the world
has not forsaken us completely–

I’m having trouble understandng what you mean by “flags” here — I’m getting a cartoonish image, which I’m not sure is what you intended.
Dave: this is more what I meant.

White with rime,
the cattails’ broken blades–
Under the springhouse eaves,
an empty phoebe nest–
Two juncos come, wings
fluttering like prayer flags–
As if to let us know the world
has not forsaken us completely–
