They drum on my house, reminding me that I was asleep. But, I suppose, verifying (to me) that I am in the world.
Oh dear. Is it unpainted wood? I used to have a pileated that did that now and then, before the latest paint job.
Well, given the time of year, I suspect that woodpecker is not just saying, “I’m here,” but “I’m here and really, really hot!”
We have fought a Ladder-back for several years. He favored the 4X4 posts supporting a walkway. The holes were threatening the integrity of the posts. We tried wrapping them in foil, which works but is quite temporary. I have now installed sheet metal around the posts.
That’ll learn him, dern him!
