The top half of a dead elm behind the house crashes down in the wind. I remember the porcupine in its topmost branch like a crown of thorns.

It will not perish from the earth.
That elm tree would. It’s ransom?
Why, the crown of thorns, sir.
That porcupine atop the fallen tree?
Unlike the wounding diadem, it
Will be there again at sunrise,
Unlike His tree and prickly crown.
