The first holes have appeared in the forest wall, blue sky above the ridgeline leaking through. A dozen silent jays skim the treetops.

What a perfect word picture of the hole in the forest wall. I was noticing the bright yellow ash outside our science classroom and how much sky blue was showing through the missing leaves.

Thanks. It makes me a little sad, although of course my view from the porch will be extended by a couple hundred yards when all the leaves come down.

Same with us in our backyard. When the leaves fall, we suddenly get a view of the Willamette River (from the corner if you look just right) and the vastness of the woods behind our house. Consolation prize I suppose. Dave- thanks for the tweet!
