Cool and clear. A female hummingbird keeps hovering in front of my face and chirping, intermittently joined by two others. I am not wearing any bright colors. I’m left wondering what message I’ve failed to understand.

  1. Hummingbirds have done that to me many times to request—demand?—that I fill the feeder.Once again n Anna’s hummer kept dancing 4″ in front of my face, even though there was nectar in the feeder. I finally checked, and there were a couple dozen ants decomposing in the liquid. I put out a clean, full feeder. He drank long and deep and then went on his way.


    1. I know they do that, but there haven’t been feeders here since 2020 when my brother and sister-in-law were sharing the house. Perhaps this bird has figured out from other places that humans will sometimes produce feeders if you yell at them.


  2. I wouldn’t put it past them.
